What information PetKayr collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email, profile photo, and location you choose to share.
- Pet profiles you create, including care instructions and vet information.
- Booking, credit, and membership history.
- Messages you send in-app - we keep them to protect the community, prevent abuse, and resolve disputes.
- Device and log data needed to run the service securely.
Identity verification information
ID verification is handled by Stripe Identity. When you verify, Stripe processes images of your government ID and a live face scan (selfie), and matches your face to the photo on your ID. PetKayr receives only a pass/fail result and limited verification status - never your ID images or biometric data. Stripe's handling of that data is described in Stripe's privacy policy.
Face data (biometric information)
When you choose to complete identity verification, PetKayr and its service provider Stripe collect and process face data - the live face scan (selfie) you capture during verification and the face image on your government-issued photo ID.
- Collection: face data is collected only when you voluntarily start identity verification. The face scan is captured live through Stripe Identity's verification screen; PetKayr never captures face data anywhere else in the app.
- Intended uses: your face data is used for one purpose only - to match your face scan to the photo on your ID, confirming you are the person who owns that ID (18+ identity verification) and preventing one ID from verifying multiple PetKayr accounts.
- Disclosures and sharing: your face data is shared only with Stripe, the identity-verification provider that performs the face match. PetKayr never sells face data, never uses it for advertising, never uses it to train machine-learning or facial-recognition systems beyond the one-time verification match, and never shares it with other members or third parties. Stripe commits to providing face data the same or equal level of protection as described in this privacy policy, as reflected in Stripe's Services Agreement and privacy policy.
- Retention: PetKayr does not receive, store, or retain your ID images or face scan at any time - it receives only a pass/fail result. Stripe retains verification images per its published retention schedule (currently about one year after verification completes) and then deletes them. PetKayr stores only a one-way numeric fingerprint of your ID document (from which the ID or your face cannot be reconstructed) while your account is active.
- Deletion and revoking consent: you can revoke your consent and have your face data deleted at any time - contact PetKayr support and we will request deletion of your verification data from Stripe and delete your ID fingerprint from PetKayr's records. Deleting your PetKayr account also triggers deletion of your ID fingerprint and the associated verification record. Withdrawing consent or deleting your face data means identity-dependent features (such as sitting for other members' pets and Founding Member status) become unavailable; verification is never required for other use of the app.
How we use information
- To provide the service: profiles, bookings, credits, and messaging.
- To verify identity and keep the community safe.
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and off-platform circumvention.
- To provide support and communicate about your account.
- To improve PetKayr, using aggregated analytics you can opt out of.
Sharing
- We never sell your personal information.
- We share with service providers who help us operate (for example, Stripe for payments and identity verification).
- We may share when legally required, to protect someone's safety, or to enforce our rights.
